Ground Movement

Settlement, Heave and Earth Pressures

The foundations of new buildings are most commonly limited by tolerable settlement more so than load. We can provide design recommendations within given or assumed settlement tolerances and provide recommendations to optimise the design.

All ground-borne structures can be affected by both settlement and heave. As the development requires, we can calculate estimates of ground movement and provide advice and recommendations as appropriate. Earth pressures as relates to retaining structures can also be provided if required.

Building near existing or proposed trees can have significant implications on the layout of a proposed development as well as the foundation depths and consequential costs. We can assess the soil/water conditions and advise an appropriate depth and location of foundations to optimise their design. We can provide advice compliant with NHBC standards or other guidance as required.
